What I want for Christmas/birthday 2011. Click for details. And yes, I actually really do want a Lumia 800 (or whatever phone comes out after it) once Skype becomes available for WP7. I tried one out at the Starhub shop the other day and was pretty impressed.
Sony VAIO Z — S$4999
When people ask me what Windows laptop they should buy, I never hesitate to recommend Lenovo—their products just keep going and going, more so than some other brands I went through before switching to a Mac, which apparently lasts longer (I have a friend who still uses a 12” PowerBook). I’m not really a fan of Sony products either, but this is a fantastic premise: a lightweight laptop with an external graphics card for heavy rendering when you’re at your desk, and portability when you’re not.
Gaggenau Lift Oven — US$4000
File under over-the-top and you-probably-don’t-need-this. This oven would, however, allow you to poke at that Christmas turkey on a ceramic base without burning yourself trying to dodge the sides of your bog-standard front loader. It also has the added advantage of not letting heat escape when you open it to check, because—and you should remember this from physics class—heat rises and remains trapped on top. George Foreman grill what?
Edge of Belgravia Onyx Ceramic Knives — £30 and up
They’ve got these in Damascus Steel as well, but I’m more interested insomething noir (although grammatically incorrect, but—ha ha). I’m also sick of having to sharpen my cheap Sainsbury knives; they can’t cut chicken for shit anymore. These look to be a lot easier to handle than the ones we were using for the Christmas turkey last year, so—chalk one up for the lad pad.
Need Supply Co. x Rogue Territory Trousers — US$155
Last pair of trousers for now, I promise. These look slimmer than the Wings + Horns twill pants earlier, but not to the point where you have to wear a trucker cap and start shuffling once you put them on. Need Supply seem to be pretty proud of these.
That’s it for today. Tomorrow: kitchen shit.
Wings + Horns West Point Twill Slim Pant — CA$194
I’ve been hunting for a pair of chinos that don’t make me look like I just got out from class at school. Again, maybe it’s a Singaporean thing, but I think it’s all in the cut. Button fly, slim-fit, made in Japan.
Outlier Ultralight Summer Trousers — US$222
Today, we focus on trousers: Yes, summer is almost over, but it never really stops being ridiculously hot in Singapore, which lets you wear these things all year round. Outlier say these trousers are lightweight, breathable and durable—buy a pair and let me know, because I’m going back to London where summer is (mostly) a lie. Available in Navy Gray or Steel Gray.
